As Alabama’s Chief Elections Official, the SoS protects and ensures voting rights for every eligible citizen; provides fair, accessible, and secure elections. We have invited all Secretary of State candidates on your ballot to participate in this forum. The public always benefits from first-hand information about a candidate’s positions, statements, and values. On July 17, 2021, the League of Women Voters of Alabama hosted a virtual convention at which distinguished experts discussed open records legislation in the state house - legislation that would make government in Alabama more transparent at all levels. This is a video recording of that discussion. How can our laws make records readily accessible in a timely manner and at reasonable (or free) cost? How would such law be enforced? And how can this be done while protecting privacy rights as required?
